Thoughts
From Proverbs 3
Proverbs 3:1-26
21My son, do not lose
sight of these—
keep sound wisdom and discretion,
22 and they will be life for your soul
and adornment for your neck.
23 Then you will walk on your way securely,
and your foot will not stumble.
keep sound wisdom and discretion,
22 and they will be life for your soul
and adornment for your neck.
23 Then you will walk on your way securely,
and your foot will not stumble.
We
saw in chapter 2 there are no accidental saints. The Bible is consistent. Per
Jonah in the belly of the great fish in the deep, "Salvation is of the Lord”. With Ephesians 2: 8-9. "For
it is by grace we are saved." But this truth should never cause us to
forget that the life of the believer is a war, a race that we run to the finish
line, and a life that is to be lived. cf Verses 21-23.
When we read Hebrews 11:lff, we read of
our heroes and it is written with care and purpose. There was something common
to them. They all did what they did through faith in God. Hebrews 11:6 tells us
what faith is. And what we see following this verse is what this faith does.
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him,
for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists
and that he rewards those who seek him.
Faith is not a passive word. It is a word of
action. I read many years ago in William Jay’s writings, "There may be some closet saints, but they
are very few."
Esther was a secret saint. But there came an occasion when her faith was
called into action. Read carefully
Esther 4:12-16. This is not fatalism.
This is the saint in action and it is no accident.
