From Proverbs 2
Proverbs
2:1-21
1- My son, if you
receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
and treasure up my commandments with you,
3- yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
and raise your voice for understanding,
4- if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5- then you will
understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
and find the knowledge of God.
9- Then you will understand righteousness and
justice
and equity, every good path;
and equity, every good path;
This is a revealing passage. First there
is the way of escape. Secondly is a description of the evil man. Thirdly is the
ideal citizenship of any society.
This begins with the conditions for
success. In verse 1 there is an “if”. This the first condition. God's
word and commandment must be received as they are.
The second condition is in verse 3. “If" you seek that which the Word has made you recognize you
don't have. "Call out" and
"raise your voice" indicate
the intensity of the search. A casual haphazard concern will not work.
The third condition is in verse 4. “If" you value this more than treasure and recognize that it
has a hidden nature which will require all your effort, ''then".
The first result is in verse 5. “Then” and only then will the “fear
of the Lord” become a reality directing you.
The second result is in verse 9. "Then” the character of society and your fellow inhabitants will
become increasingly clear to you resulting in your deliverance.
